Cloning

A clone is a copied material that contains the same genetic makeup as the original.
Reproductive Cloning: This technology is used to create a new organism from an existing animal, using its DNA, that is identical to the donor. An example is Dolly, the first animal successfully cloned from an adult DNA. As a result of this successful experiment, the question of human cloning arose, bringing concerns about its ethical implications.
Therapeutic Cloning: Also known as embryo cloning, this technique uses stem cells harvested from human embryos to treat diseases. Stem cells have not yet developed into specialized cells, allowing scientists to manipulate them into the cell types needed in research. Therapeutic cloning is controversial because human embryos are destroyed in the collection process.
