The decoding of the human genome will greatly impact our future in positive and potentially negative ways. While we will be able to treat diseases like cancer, scientists may have the ability to genetically engineer the physical appearances of future generations. Ultimately, man will be able to manipulate evolution.
[Decoding the human genome sequence] is the most significant undertaking that we have mounted so far in an organized way in all of science. I believe that reading our blueprints, cataloging our own instruction book, will be judged by history as more significant than even splitting the atom or going to the moon.
